Health Ministry, RDC to follow-up concerns raised by Diamond Hospital administrator : – including sanitation, security and medical supplies

ADMINISTRATOR of the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital at Diamond, Mr. Kevin Mana has raised concerns over certain matters affecting the institution and is asking for them to be addressed in a timely manner. Mana, who said the hospital is in need of supplies, security and proper sanitation, was at the time speaking to Regional Executive Officer(REO), Deolall Rooplall, who had stopped by the institution to hand over a bill of quantity for the contract signed for the rehabilitation of the hospital.
The REO informed him that quite recently a busload of items from the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) stores had been sent with an official to be distributed to the health facilities along the East Bank.  However, Mana noted that his institution had not received any of the items nor had he heard from the official.
He also asked the REO to look into the matter of the hospital compound which is very low and becomes easily flooded when it rains, and this is not very pleasant and healthy for patients and other persons using the facility.
He highlighted the need for a new washer and dryer as well as a proper hanging place. Mana also noted that a biometric time system in the hospital would be a plus as it would ensure accurate time-keeping records.
The administrator suggested too that there is need for a proper water filtration system and the placing of a sign for the hospital and a dress code board. Mana also asked for a handyman to be employed at the facility to assist in doing odd jobs around the compound.
Additionally, he said the guards at the hospital have had trouble with the vendor who sells on the hospital reserve and although officials have spoken to him about moving, he has refused.
Deolall told Mana that the matter of the vendor will be dealt with by the NDC and as REO he will launch an inquiry about the supplies that were sent to the hospital but never arrived. Rooplall also assured that he will do everything in his capacity to ensure the facility’s needs are met.
He said that a contract to address the matters of electrical repairs and plumbing was signed and works will soon begin, all in an effort to assist the hospital and make it more comfortable for Guyanese.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Dr Bheri Ramsarran, in an invited comment regarding the woes of the hospital, said he is aware of an issue of lack of security at the hospital but not anything about supplies. However, he assured that the Ministry of Health will look into these matters and try to address them in a timely manner.
