THE attack on Mr. Gocool Boodhoo by the PNC/APNU is really another attempt at ethnic cleansing in the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

This man, as Chief Elections Officer, has delivered free and fair elections at several general and national elections. What’s the reason then for calling for his removal?
Clearly, the only cause is racism. There are not many Indo-Guyanese employed at GECOM at the moment.
The Opposition seems to have succeeded in driving fear in GECOM’s Commissioner Dr Steve Surujbally. It seems he has acquiesced to their wishes since their calls for him to resign have ceased and they seem to want him on the job more than ever. Maybe he has agreed to help them get rid of Mr Boodhoo to save his own high- paying job.
If they succeed, this will be one of the greatest betrayals of the Guyanese people, for Dr Surujbally will be opening the door to have our elections rigged from inside, while the APNU/PNC/AFC will create terror on the outside.
This is really a dark period in Guyana, as the democracy which we had to fight so hard for is now being seriously threatened.
