Money approved but… Contract for GFS training school with Tender Board – Fire Chief

THE contract to complete phase three of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) Training School, at Leonora, West Coast Demerara, is still with the Tender Board, Fire Chief Marlon Gentle disclosed yesterday.

altHe said money for it was approved, recently, but phase two is progressing on the sprawling t-shape building, the frame for which is in place and works are going according to schedule.
That entails erection of the main structure, including barracks, mess and lecture halls and other accommodation that would include an open tarmac for simulated demonstrations on firefighting.
Live rescue operations will be conducted there and Gentle said the facility, in the Leonora Fire Station compound, will provide specialised training for firefighters.
In phase one, a fence was erected after the construction of culverts and bridges on approximately four acres of land.
Gentle said that was accomplished through a Ministry of Home Affairs capital project at a cost of $25M.
The Fire Chief said Leonora would be the first place where an area is dedicated to train GFS personnel and meet related needs, like basic amenities, among them classrooms and facilities for both practical and theoretical requirements.
