Former NCN manager Mazrul Bacchus dies

FORMER Administrative Manager of Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of National Communications Network Inc, John Mazrul Bacchus, died in the United Kingdom on Sunday evening after a battle with cancer.

The one-time radio broadcaster joined the GBC in 2000, when its operations were then on High Street at Broadcasting House.
He later moved to Homestretch Avenue when Guyana Television (GTV) and Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) were merged to form the National Communications Network Inc.
While serving the new entity, he acted as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, working directly as the second in command to then Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Sattaur.
Mr. Bacchus was known in radio land for his popular Saturday night programme, Indian Top 15, which was aired on 98.1 Hot FM and rebroadcast on Wednesday nights on the Voice of Guyana, another radio channel.
After a break from the radio, he returned to host the Indian Memory Album which was previously produced by veteran radio broadcaster Ayube Hamid who passed away in 2008.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle yesterday, radio coordinator Michella Abraham Ali said that working with the then administrative manager was a positive experience as he was known to be a very principled, respectable and humble person.
Abraham, herself, a veteran radio announcer, said that Bacchus always displayed a high level of professionalism when it came to administration, but had a short fuse for incompetence and unprofessionalism. Bacchus was also qualified in business management.
He leaves to mourn his wife, children, other relatives and friends.
