MINISTER of Public Works, Mr. Robeson Benn has indicated that a decision, on the rebuilding of the collapsed Moco Moco Bridge in Region 9 (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) will be made on the basis of three designs submitted by engineers of the Works Services Group.
He said, after a visit to the area and first hand inspection, a number of recommendations were put forward for consideration and implementation for the new hinterland road use.
Benn said they will decide tomorrow after all the engineering details have been considered and quantified.
He said the construction is expected to be done in six weeks with resources to come from the Regional Administration, Rupununi Chambers of Commerce and contracting firm V. Dalip Enterprise.
Following heavy rainfall last week, high rising water floated away one of the pillars on the bridge linking Moco Moco to St. Ignatius and the authorities were not informed. Consequently, a hauler with a D4 bulldozer crashed through the structure while crossing.
The damaged vehicle and equipment are owned by Dalip Enterprise, which was executing works in the deep South Rupununi.
