THE New Building Society Limited has responded to a request from members of the Management Committee of Blairmont Crematorium & Memorial Garden Society for assistance in constructing a Crematorium and Memorial Garden by donating $1,000,000.
The society recognized the enormous benefits residents, particularly those in the West Berbice region, stand to gain when this entire project is completed. NBS’ Chairman, Mr. Moen Mc Doom S.C., disclosed how pleased the directors were when the plan, including the amenities, were presented to the board.
Mr. Mc Doom declared that NBS honours its corporate responsibilities by giving back to the society at large, and urges other corporate entities to follow suit to ensure that the project is fully completed. He said that this is a commendable project, since no such facilities are available in the West Berbice and Lower East Berbice areas. He also said that the amenities to be offered are needed at such sites, and that this project would be setting higher standards for cremation sites.
In response, the Blairmont Crematorium & Memorial Garden Society’s Chairman, Mr. Nowrang Persaud, expressed his organisation’s sincere gratitude for the NBS contribution. He did acknowledge that some businesses as well as those from the diaspora contributed to the $15M project, but expressed hope that others will step forward.
When completed, the Blairmont Crematorium & Memorial Garden located south of the Blairmont Estate will house a variety of facilities. The Crematorium is expected to have two pyres with a viewing pavilion in a garden environment, comfortable seating for over 200 persons in the shade of the pavilion, car park, washrooms, refreshment facilities, prayer/meditation rooms and a memorial hall.
