The suspected murderer of 30 years old Maryann Sunita Nauth who died at a city hotel last Sunday (Mother’s Day) was arrested by police officers early Wednesday morning at the Supenaam speed boat stelling.
Reports said the suspected murderer Vinod Balgobin who escaped the police dragnet for several days was caught while travelling to the Pomeroon for Venezuela to escape the Police. However, while the suspected killer was at Parika stelling someone saw him boarding the speed boat for Supenaam and as such feed information to Essequibo Police where he was nabbed when he arrived. The suspected murderer was arrested by cops and taken to the Aurora Police Station.
*** Street Lime/ Pageant show for Anna Regina Town Day celebrations
The planning committee for the Anna Regina Town Day celebrations has included street lime and a pageant show as part of activities for the celebrations billed for 23 to 25 August in the commercial center of the Town.
The eleven member committee which met on Monday in the Boardroom of the Town Hall has planned to hold a massive exhibition, and concert entitled “Essequibo in Concert “,cultural evening, street football, history talk of the Town, pageant show, guided tour to historic sites in the Town, sports day and socializing evening.The planning committee has also planned an Inter Faith service which will be held just before the official opening ceremony of Town day.
The committee members said the Anna Regina car park tarmac will be used for most of the activities while the street lime will be held along the public road from Republic Bank to the bridge near the Anna Regina police station.The members have proposed to close the road from Republic Bank to the Police station street bridge to all traffic during the street lime which will be held during the evening.
The committee has decided that spots will be made available to large beverage and food companies and small businesses on a first come bases at the park and along the road way that will be blocked off for the lime.
The planning committee said a clean and best village competition will be launched before the Town Day celebrations and the focus will be to make the villages within the Town and beyond clean and tidy for the grand celebrations. The committee in an effort to fast track the quick organizing of activities has elected several subcommittees . Reports said the Public Relations committee will be headed by Rajendra Prabhulall who will also oversee the planning of the interfaith service. The works committee is headed by the .Chairman of the planning committee Mr. Harry Persaud while Sports will be organized by IMC councillor Mr. Gary Williams.The cultural committee will be headed by Mr. Walcott while another IMC councillor Ms. Joan Austin will head the committee to organise the exhibition .
