AT a simple ceremony held at the New Amsterdam branch of the New Building Society Ltd, Mr. Anil Beharry, Senior Manager of NBS in East Berbice, handed over a cash donation to members of the Angoy’s Avenue Playfield Management Committee (AAPMC) to assist in completion of the playfield.
Beharry said he was pleased that the NBS could contribute to this project, especially, considering that Angoy’s Avenue is on the move after being a depressed community for many years. Many infrastructural works were done over the years, he said, and this playfield will bring out people to exercise and recreate.
Beharry advised the Committee to focus on youth involvement in sports such as cricket, volleyball and football. He said that getting young people involved in sports would help to keep them off the streets, and at the same time produce better individuals in the community.
Mr. Desmond Kelly of the AAPMC thanked the New Building Society for coming on board in completion of the project, and appealed to other organizations to do likewise. He assured all sponsors that all monies collected would be accounted for, and the funds would be spent for the intended purpose.
