New magazine launched to promote investment in Guyana

ADVERTISING Marketing Services (AMS), with the assistance of President Donald Ramotar and Acting Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali, on Thursday, launched its latest publication, Guyana Invest.

altIntroduced as Guyana’s premier investment magazine, the publication was welcomed and lauded as timely by Private Sector Commission (PSC) Chairman Ronald Webster and Canadian High Commissioner David Devine.
AMS Managing Director Lokesh Persaud, introducing the book to scores of the local business elite gathered at Duke Lodge, in Kingston, Georgetown, said one of the primary reasons behind the publishing is Guyana’s more than creditable economic performance in recent years.
He declared that this country has been the shining star of the Caribbean, in terms of its sustained economic growth.
Persaud said he wanted, through the magazine, to support the Private Sector’s catalytic role in growing the economy.
President Ramotar, who delivered the keynote address, described the publication as ‘most impressive’ and, indeed, a work of excellence and a welcome part of promoting investment opportunities in Guyana.alt
The Head of State said he would be instructing that it be placed in all Guyana’s overseas missions where the information about the country can be readily available.

Unparalleled attention
He said that Guyana is currently at a stage in its development where it is attracting unparalleled attention from local and regional investors alike.
Mr. Ramotar praised the country’s sound macro-economic fundamentals that have allowed for increased investment locally, boosting the nation’s economic growth in the process.
He recalled there was a time when businesses were barely surviving locally and were “hoping and praying for better days.”
President Ramotar said that situation has changed and pointed to the results of a recent survey, by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), that documented more than 91 percent of local businesses reporting a profit.
He said there is, currently, an unsurpassed level of confidence in the Guyanese economy, even in the face of less than favourable international conditions.
As such, the President said the magazine is an excellent vehicle for sensitising investors and people generally.
With Canada representing one of Guyana’s largest bilateral investment partners, High Commissioner Devine, in welcoming the magazine, attested that “Guyana is economically on the rise.”

Long time
The diplomat reaffirmed his belief that the magazine has been a long time coming, even as he emphasised the importance of investment to economic growth of a country
The envoy promised that Canada will continue to heavily invest in Guyana.
Webster, who also made remarks at the launching, said there is need for greater foreign direct investment in the country and, as such, the magazine will aid in the nation’s marketing efforts.
He said he is of the opinion that the problems facing Guyana are not insurmountable and that the nation, as a whole, must be more aggressive “in trying to lure investment flows.”
“Guyana is on the move. Guyana is ready for investment once we walk this journey together,” said Minister Ali, who also praised the magazine as a critical tool to capture and disseminate information about the environment to invest locally.
‘Invest Guyana’ will be published annually, targeting local and foreign investors, with the focus on investment in this country.
The initial edition features a range of infrastructure projects countrywide as well as new businesses that illustrate “confidence in the Guyanese economy.”
It showcases, among other things, Barbadian investment in the agriculture sector and local business magnate Sattaur Gaffoor as its ‘Icon of Enterprise.’
Edited by business consultant Sandra Baptiste, the magazine also details sector investments and provides information on incentives.
According to publisher Persaud, ‘Invest Guyana’ is intended to be used as a promotional tool to encourage investment by highlighting openings and giving information on doing business in Guyana.
