THE Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, hosted a medical outreach last weekend at the Al-Madinah Islamic Academy, Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast.
More than three hundred patients were seen by nine doctors from the Ministry of Health and the Cheddi Jagan Dental School. Patients were treated for common ailments such as hypertension and diabetes. In addition, several dental extractions and eye refractions were done and children’s vitamin syrups from the Ministry of Health were distributed.
The aim of this programme was to sensitise people on the Essequibo Coast to the importance of hygiene, diet and other health issues.
The CIOG sees its role as complementing that of the government in ensuring that health care reaches the un-reached.
The CIOG wishes to thank Minister of Health and staff of the ministry, the Regional Health Office at Suddie, the administration and staff of the Cheddi Jagan Dental School, and all those who cooperated in this effort to make it a success.
