THE training squad of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) to date remains the same. These players are currently undergoing a painstaking Rugby Skills Fitness Training Programme every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in the National Park Rugby Field from 16.00hrs.
The squad will further be reduced to 22 players, closer to the NACRA Senior Men’s 15s Caribbean Championships against Barbados on Saturday, May 18, in Guyana..
Three new committees have been established to further facilitate the Union and the players. These are: Constitutional and Rules Review Committee, Resources Committee and Oversight Committee.
The new Director of the Sevens is Mike McCormack, while the new Director of the Fifteens is Alwin Etwah, who is also the Technical Director of the NACRA senior men’s 15s Caribbean championships.
The Union is currently working on finalising a Strategic and Development Plan to ensure quality, preparation and performance at all levels. Systems also to be put in place will ensure much thoroughness and detail to epitomise the sense of conscientious guardianship within the Union for the welfare of rugby football in Guyana.
Also on the card is a plan the union is devising to reach out to several organisations for support to help facilitate the players in the upcoming matches.
