Goodluck wins 2013 National rifle shooting title … Sampson shines on final day

RANSFORD Goodluck was crowned 2013 National Rifle shooting champion but Ryan Sampson upstaged the frontrunners in ‘X Class on the final day of competition at the Timehri rifle ranges Sunday.

Sampson recorded 128 points with 6Vs to edge out Goodluck, Lennox Braithwaite and Dylan Fields in a closely fought final day.
It was a battle of nerves as Sampson dropped just one point out of a possible 35 points at 300 yards and followed up with 48 points and 3Vs at 500 yards and 46.2 at 1000 yards.
Goodluck recorded 34.4 at 300, 48.3 at 500 and 45.1 at 1000 to end the day on 127.8 to edge out current Caribbean individual champion Braithwaite and fullbore vice-captain Fields who both ended the day of 127.6.
Braithwaite shot 34.2 at 300, 48.2 at 500 and 45.2 at 1000 yards while Fields shot a possible at 300 with 1 V, 46.3 at 500 and 46.2 at 1000.
Fullbore captain Mahendra Persaud ended with 125.8 shooting 33.4 at 300, 48.3 at 500 and 44.1 at 1000.
Leo Romalho bounced back to take the honours in the ‘O’ Class with an overall score of 118 with 7Vs (34.5, 47.1, 37.1)
Lt. Col. Terrence Stuart was second with 116.3 while Charles Deane recorded 116.2 and Peter Persaud 94.0.
Goodluck won the first day’s aggregate while Persaud was the winner in day two.
Goodluck emerged overall winner with a Grand Aggregate of 341 points with 27Vs, followed by Braithwaite in second position with 340.24, Mahendra Persaud recorded 338.20 for third place followed by Fields 329.16 fourth, Sampson 318.10, Leo Romalho 315.16, Lt. Col Stuart 314.9, Deane 309.15, Dane Blair 298.10, Persaud 285.4 and Nelson 146.4.
The local shooters will continue preparations for the visit to Guyana of Great Britain Rifle Shooting team next week and the Caribbean Fullbore championships the following week in Barbados.
This Sunday the shooters will be involved in a Team Practice shoot at the Timehri ranges starting at 10:00hrs.
