DEFENDING champions of the Banks DIH-organised Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal football competition, TLC Russians, continued their impressive bid to retain the title this year, by defeating The Amazings 2-1 last Saturday night, to advance to the quarter-finals.
Shaquille Charles was the lone individual to score a double in the night’s action which was contested at the Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward Bus Park, enabling Unique Unknowns to book their quarter-finals place as well, following their 3-1 victory over Mini Bus.
In the first contest of the evening, Coomacka edged Speightland United 1-0, thanks to Derwin Daw’s 18th minute strike. Next game was Silent Assassins and Alikyu playing to a 1-1 stalemate, with Averell Johnson finding the back of the net for the former in the 6th minute, while Romain Haynes replied for the latter who lost the penalty shootout 1-0, one minute after Johnson’s goal.
Shawn Daniels and Terrence Brown found the back of the net in the 3rd and 12th minutes of play respectively for the defending champions, who came away with a 2-1 victory over The Amazings, for whom Errol David scored in the 5th minute of play.
Like Coomacka, Wisroc inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Classic Six, with Orande Wills scoring their winning goal in the 8th minute and, after the usual Guinness break, One Mile/Half Mile emulated Coomacka and Wisroc by defeating Cherokee Park 1-0, thanks to Steve Brewley’s 14th minute strike.
Robin Adams (9th) and Dishawn Freeman (17th) minute goals, guided Silver Bullets to a 2-0 victory over Hardknocks, following which Charles got his double in Unique Unknowns’ 3-1 victory over Mini Bus, with Darrel George scoring the other goal for the victors, while the timings and goalscorer for Mini Bus is unknown.
Meanwhile, the organisers have released the fixtures for the quarterfinals set for this Saturday, at the Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward Bus Park.
In the opening encounter, TLC Shippings Russians will square off against Coomacka United and that will be followed by the clash between Silent Assassins and Unknowns, before Silver Bullets take on Star Boys and Half Mile/One Mile tackle Wisroc in the final game of the night.
Three exhibition games are also planned with L.U.C.S.L confronting Bosai; Drivers/Conductors opposing Team Greatness and Coomacka Females challenging on their counterparts from Speightland.
