DEON Charles, 26, of Kamwatta Mission in Region 1 (Barima/Waini) pleaded not guilty to charges of cannabis (marijuana) possession before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, yesterday.
Particulars of one offence said, on Wednesday, April 17, he had eight grammes and the other charge said he had one gramme the same day.
The Court was told that the defendant had gone to Aruka Police Station in the same district and was observed, by a corporal, behaving in a suspicious manner.
A search was conducted on his person and the prohibited substance in a ziplock bag was discovered in his right side pants pocket, but he said it was for his personal use.
Charles was ordered to post $50,000 and $3,000 surety, respectively, for the two offences and the cases will be called, again, on May 7.
