Joseph was gunned down and the jewels he was wearing were taken by two men on a motorcycle, who fled after discharging a volley of bullets, one of which struck the victim in the abdomen.
The 52-year-old President of Blue Bird Domino Club had left his yard to retrieve his motor car and park it under his house when he was attacked by the gunmen who ecaped under the cover of darkness. It was about 23:40 hrs after a competition had ended.
Heard explosions
The Deputy Commissioner (Law Enforcement) reported that the dead man’s wife, Faye Joseph heard explosions and, when she went to enquire the source, she saw her mortally wounded husband lying on the roadway.
Persaud said Joseph was relieved of a gold chain and a gold band and succumbed while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Thomas was pronounced dead on arrival at the GPH and, initially, three women and two men were detained. Up to now, though, no motive for the crime has been ascertained by the police.
Meanwhile, Persaud revealed that nine men from the Cove and John, East Coast Demerara community were held and DNA samples taken from three of them to be sent overseas for testing, in relation to the brutal murder of 89-year-old Millicent Cummings.
