PUBLIC Relations Officer (PRO) of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) Mr. Royston King, said he is “flabbergasted” that the Council is making decisions that are either being ignored or not implemented by the administration, especially the Acting Town Clerk Carol Sooba.

altKing, recently, issued a release to the Guyana Chronicle, stating that City Hall was not going to allow Easter vending on the Georgetown seawall.
However, Sooba, soon after, sent a letter to advise that the newspaper ignore the information provided by King.
In an invited comment, at City Hall, King said he chose not to respond to what he saw in the newspaper from Sooba, because he regarded it as “sheer foolishness.”
He explained that at a recent statutory meeting, Council took the decision against allowing selling on the seawall at Easter, due to the placement of boulders, bricks and other construction materials along the roadway in the vicinity.
During the debate, King said some councillors argued that Council should go ahead and rent the spots if people were willing to buy them. Others, though, reasoned that they must not act irresponsibly just because people are willing to pay.alt

DECIDED AGAINST
Traditionally, City Hall rented places at the location to businesses but decided against it this year, because an unsafe situation existed.
“I couldn’t see, that as a responsible Council, we could have gone ahead to rent spots to citizens knowing full well that we are putting people’s lives in danger, particularly our children,” King stated.
He said he was merely following the instructions of the Council to place the notice in the newspapers and he believes that its decision was violated by the Acting Town Clerk.
“Once Council takes a decision, all of the officers are supposed to comply with the decision, even if that officer is the Town Clerk. All officers are servants of the Council and all should comply with the decisions. It has always been that way,” King maintained.
