GUYANA’S largest bakery, Bakewell, has for the 14th successive year, renewed its cricket sponsorship with the country’s leading sports organization, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Under 17 and Second Division cricket teams respectively, to the tune of $200,000, which would cover the cost of cricket balls, transportation and snacks for both teams.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC, Hilbert Foster at the launching on Friday last at Bakewell head office at Triumph, ECD stated that the company first came on board with the club in 2000 and over the years the relationship has been very successful with both the RHT Bakewell Second Division and Under-17 winning the Berbice Championship several times.
The two teams are also currently the defending champions at their levels in Berbice and Foster disclosed that players such as West Indies test player Assad Fudadin, ODI player Royston Crandon, Esuan Crandon and Renwick Batson all passed through the various teams.
Also representing both teams were Delbert Hicks, Dominic Rikhi, Eon Hooper, Khemraj Mahadeo, Shailendra Shameer, Shawn Pereira, Lloydel Lewis and West Indies female cricketer Shemaine Campbell and Erva Giddings.
The teams also completed a combined 540 personal development programmes under the sponsorship under the sub-headings of charity, education, anti-drugs, youth and community development.
The RHTYSC, Foster noted is very grateful for the role Bakewell has played in the development of the RHTYSC and described the popular Bakery as one of the main reasons why the club has developed into Guyana’s best.
Foster also disclosed that the Under 17 team would be renamed – The Naeem Nasir Team in honour of the late Bakewell founder who died last year.
General Manager of Bakewell, Rajindranauth Ganga in handing over the sponsorship described the RHTYSC as a role model organization that his company was pleased to be associated with.
He stated that the Bakewell Second Division and Under 17 teams have over the years made his company very proud with both their on and off cricket field activities and urged the members of the RHTYSC to maintain their standard for excellence and to strive for greater success in the future.
Bakewell apart from the cricket sponsorship also co-sponsor the RHTYSC annual charity programmes, annual review magazine, award ceremony, cricket academy and pro-education campaign.
