Bakewell and NAMILCO partner with RHTYSC for Champion of Champions T20 : …. Ansa McAl also on board

THERE is no contradiction when the word ‘Success’ is used in the same breath with Guyana’s most successful youth club, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC), which, over the past two decades, has become a household name in Guyana due to its record of achievements. Even Managing Director of National Milling Company (NAMILCO) Roopnarine ‘Bert’ Sukhai offered his congratulations to the club from the Ancient County for its active participation in sports in Berbice. He did so at the launching of the inaugural Bakewell/NAMILCO Champion of Champions T20 tournament that is being organised by RHTYSC.
“Successful businesses look for synergies and agreeing to work together in promoting cricket in Berbice was a great idea in creating this synergy,” said Sukhai who expounded on his company’s partnership with Bakewell to sponsor the tournament which bowls off on April 21 and will see eight teams battle for supremacy.
“NAMILCO is very pleased to announce the launching of the NAMILCO/Bakewell T20 cricket tournament, which will be run under the astute guidance of Hilbert Foster and the executives of the RHTYSC.
As you are well aware, NAMILCO and Bakewell have a long-standing relationship since one of the main ingredients in bread is flour, hence we depend on each other for survival and over the years have worked together to ensure each other’s success,” stated Sukhai.
He reminded those in attendance, which included Foster, General Manager of Bakewell Rajindranauth Ganga, PRO of Ansa McAl Darshanie Yusuf, NAMILCO’s Production Engineer Ralph Hensing and Bakewell’s Sales Manager Prem Hansraj, of Bakewell’s late CEO Naeem Nazir’s love for sports.
“Mr Nazir was insightful to know that sports would play an active part in the success of his business. I admired the way he went into football with vigour and sponsored his own tournament and having teams named after his company.
As we all know, Bakewell has been a major sponsor of the Kashif and Shanghai football tournament, so we have seen Mr Ganga, who recently endorsed a certain candidate for the presidency of the Guyana Football Federation, fulfilling the dreams of the late Nazir in continuing the promotion of football in particular and sports in general.”
Using the Fruta Conquerors-organised NAMILCO Football Festival as an example, Sukhai said NAMILCO emulated Nazir and launched their football tournament which has been successfully run for the last six years, along with the CARICOM Day cycle road race and the numerous other sporting activities into which they have pumped millions of dollars.
Alluding to the fact that he had never met the burly Foster until Ganga did the honours to make the introduction, Sukhai said, “It is not surprising therefore that when we were approached by Mr Foster to sponsor a cricket competition in the short form, that we readily agreed since in the past we have contributed to the RHTYSC through ads in their magazine and donation of hampers.”
Highlighting the fact that he’s a Berbician, Sukhai said he is hoping to see past and even present national players turning out for their respective clubs during the tournament, while Berbice continues to produce not only excellent cricketers, but entrepreneurs and executives.
In his brief remarks, Ganga thanked RHTYSC, with whom Bakewell has shared a partnership for the past 14 years, for giving his company the opportunity to join forces with the vibrant club in one of their projects and called on the club to put their best foot forward in making it a success.
Yusuf, who was representing her Chief Executive Officer Beverley Harper, who also serves as Patron of RHTYSC, said Ansa McAl is pleased to be associated with the tournament in more ways than one, citing the main purpose which is to buy a bus to offset transportation expenses for the club’s teams, as an important one.
According to Foster, the tournament would be played on a knockout basis among the eight teams who are RHT Gizmos and Gadgets, West Berbice, Blairmont, Bermine, Universal DVD Young Warriors, Port Mourant, Skeldon and Albion.
It will commence with two matches on  April 21 at the Skeldon and Albion grounds respectively, with RHTGG taking on Port Mourant at the Skeldon from 09:30hrs and Bermine clashing with the home team in the second fixture which bowls off at 13:30hrs.
At the Albion ground on the same day, Universal DVD Young Warriors and West Berbice would clash in the first match followed by the Albion versus Blairmont encounter, with the semifinals being played on May 5 at either the Port Mourant or Albion ground, with the latter ground set to host the final and third place playoff on May 26.
Players such as Assad Fudadin, Devendra Bishoo, Richard Ramdeen, Gajanand Singh, Sewnarine and Harrinarine Chattergoon, Renwick Batson, Rajiv Ivan and Clinton Pestano just to name a few, will be competing for their respective teams in the tournament.
NAMILCO has pumped $400 000 into the tournament while Bakewell has donated $300 000 with Ansa McAl being given the bar rights for all matches and will also take care of the music for the final and television advertising, in collaboration with TVG Channel 28.
The second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will pocket $100 000, $50 000 and $25 000 respectively. Incentives will be given to the Man-of-the-Match in the final with the organisers outfitting the four semifinalists and umpires with branded T-shirts.
