The Management of Transport and Harbours Department would like to clarify that the recent changes made to the ferry schedule were to accommodate both Wakenaam and Leguan rice farmers who had requested the use to the M.V. Malali to transport their rice crop from Wakenaam to Supenaam and Leguan to Parika respectively, during the spring rice crop season.
Currently the weekly service provided to the Leguan residents is four days with two daily departures-Tuesday to Friday, and for the other days at least one departure per day. The service for Wakenaam residents is every other day from Sunday to Saturday.
The other ferry vessel, M.V “Makouria”, is currently plying the Parika/Bartica route and on the days when there is no service to Bartica, it would operate the Parika/Leguan Service.
The Management wishes to assure the current schedule is a temporary arrangement, since the M.B Sandaka is undergoing its annual dry-docking and is slated to return to service in three weeks’ time. Thereafter, this vessel would undertake the Parika/Leguan Service and the Parika/Wakenaam Service would return to normalcy with the M.V Malali
