Defence claims virtual complainant under Investigation, fabricated robbery

RICHARD Herod, of Lot 22 Hadfield Street, Georgetown, was granted $50,000 bail yesterday, on a robbery under arms charge.

He appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that, on March 25, being armed with a gun, he robbed Christopher Lowe of a $3M motor car among other things valued a total of $5.2M.
Police Sergeant Alexis David-Hossanah, prosecuting, had no objection to the grant and confirmed that an investigation involving Lowe is ongoing.
Before the case was postponed to May 8, attorney-at-law, Mr. Mark Waldron, for the defence, said Herod is surprised at being prosecuted as he was acting on behalf of his employer when he confronted Lowe about a dishonoured cheque that the latter used to buy things.
The lawyer said Herod approached Lowe to make a citizen’s arrest but the man retaliated and he took him to a police station.
Counsel argued that the defendant would not rob Lowe and then take him to the station, and said that the virtual complainant is the one police are investigating, so he fabricated the incident and implicated the defendant.
