Housing Ministry investigating several scams – warns that unauthorised, illegal transactions will not be honoured by the CH&PA

THE Ministry of Housing and Water yesterday had cause to, once again, advise the general public that several scams have been discovered by the ministry, all of which are currently engaging the attention of its investigation unit.

The ministry said it  wishes to “again categorically state that those members of the public who usually find themselves caught up in scams of this nature, are equally culpable, since they are willing to participate in activities which they must know could not be authentic, by the very nature of the modus operandi that is used by the fraudsters”.
The ministry yesterday alluded to the several press releases which it has made over the years warning persons to desist from entering into “transactions” which do not emanate from its offices.
The ministry, through its Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), said it is disgusted with these acts of fraud and is warning the perpetrators and those who participate by receiving bogus documentation, that strong action will be taken against them.
The CH&PA yesterday also reminded members of the public that:

1. The Central Housing and Planning Authority is the only authorised agency for the allocation and receipt of payments in respect of house lots purchased from the Authority, for which official receipts are issued.

2. No one is authorised to collect monies for house lots on behalf of the Central Housing and Planning Authority. All transactions related to house lots are conducted at the Central Housing and Planning Authority’s offices. No official business with the Authority is conducted in the field or at private premises.

3. Transfer of any lot purchased from the Central Housing and Planning Authority must be approved, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Agreement of Sale.

The ministry also warned that unauthorised and illegal transactions will not be honoured by the CH&PA.
