ORLANDO Daniels and Patricia Pitt, both of Lot 3446 Postal Housing Scheme, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, were remanded to prison yesterday, on separate drug-trafficking charges.
They appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley and pleaded not guilty to the offences charged against them.
It is alleged that Daniels, on March 13, trafficked 637 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) and Pitt did similarly with 123 grammes.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the duo, stating that no special reasons were advanced for the grant.
The prosecutor said ranks from the Narcotics Branch received certain information and went to the defendants’ home, where a search was first conducted on Daniels who attempted to flush a black plastic bag down a toilet but it was retrieved with the narcotic in it.
The prosecutor said the house was further searched and a lady’s shoulder bag was found in a cupboard in the kitchen where Pitt was at the time.
The defendants were arrested and taken to a police station where the substance was tested and weighed in their presence.
According to the prosecutor, Daniels admitted, in a caution statement, that he had knowledge of the cannabis but denied ownership.
He and Pitt will remain in prison until May 7.
