WICB issues release to contradict Guyana Times article

MEDIA Communications Officer of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Imran Khan yesterday issued a press release, refuting an article that was published in the Tuesday March 12 edition of the Guyana Times, under the headline ‘Barbados, Jamaica to host Guyana’s final two regional clashes.

Below is Khan’s press release which was sent on behalf of the WICB and is being used to clear up any discrepancies that may have surfaced from the aforementioned article:
“It has been brought to our attention that a Guyana Times article of yesterday, Tuesday March 12, written by Mr Rajiv Bisnauth under the headline ‘Barbados, Jamaica to host Guyana’s final two regional clashes’ reports, inter alia, that “the WICB in its revised fixtures on Monday confirmed that the matches have been moved from Guyana.”
Regrettably the basis for the article – the so-called “revised fixtures on Monday” – appears to be a figment of the writer’s imagination. The WICB did not issue any revised fixtures on Monday last.
Further no official of the WICB confirmed with Mr Bisnauth or any member of the Guyana Times staff or any other media personnel for that matter, any changes which the article is predicated on.
At its last meeting, the Board of Directors approved a recommendation for two rounds of Super50 and Regional 4-Day matches to be hosted in Guyana after the med-season break. While the Guyana Cricket Board has been so informed, the WICB management is following the due process to ensure all the necessary agreements are in place before announcing the revised schedule.
Further, at no time did the WICB announce a schedule with matches in Guyana, therefore no matches could have been moved from Guyana as the article recklessly reports. The matches are to be moved to Guyana.
Once all the agreements are duly in place the revised schedule will be announced. The Guyana Cricket Board has already advised of its ability to host the matches and has commenced preliminary preparations in this regard.
Finally the WICB has no information that Mr Bisnauth or any member of the Guyana Times staff – who are otherwise in regular contact with the WICB Communications Department – made any effort to verify the contents of the article with the WICB before publication.
The WICB implores journalists to engage in responsible and factual journalism, devoid of mischief and irresponsibility. The WICB has made its officers fully available and accessible for provision of information and responding to queries and clarifications and urge journalists to utilize this service.”
