MINISTER of Sport Dr Frank Anthony last evening told Chronicle Sport, he is pleased at the good news of Guyana being designated by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to host the first Test of the 2013 Digicel home series between Pakistan and the West Indies in July.
“As I have always said before, the Guyana National Stadium is always available for the playing of cricket and any sport in Guyana and in that regard, I am happy to hear Guyana is being chosen to host the first Test match between the West Indies and Pakistan,” said Dr Anthony.
The Minister’s comments came in the wake of a press release issued by the WICB, who announced that the embattled Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) had advised the regional governing body for the gentleman’s game, of their ability to host the encounter.
Below is the WICB’s press release, which also states that recommendation for host venues will be discussed later this month:
“The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) late yesterday afternoon announced that the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has written to advise of the GCB’s ability to host the first Test match between West Indies and Pakistan in July.
The WICB management will now advise the International Fixtures Committee of the assurance from the GCB and await the recommendation of the committee. The Board of Directors will meet later this month in Barbados where the IFC’s recommendations for host venues for the Pakistan tour will be presented and discussed.”
