PPP/C has always consulted with stakeholders on national budget

THERE is that well known Guyanese saying: When ‘lil boy smelling eself’ that aptly fits the political opposition belief and perception of itself and new role within the current 10th Parliament.Sometime ago, there was an opinion from a certain APNU opposition shadow minister that Parliament is beginning to be more accountable because of the vigilance and pressure from the opposition. There is also a recent letter in the Stabroek News which also supports this line.
From where such has emanated, only this delusional few seem to know.
Now there is the recent accusation, alien, to all intents and purposes, that government is changing the manner in which it prepares the national budget.
Immediately, one must remind these power seekers that it has always been the tradition of the PPP/C government to consult with all stakeholders on this critical centre-piece of national development.
There has been no change in such a policy, except when the opposition made the presumptuous request of assisting the executive in the crafting of the 2012 budget. Of course, President Donald Ramotar told them where to get off!
The PPP/C government has not changed this specific arrangement of meeting with interested groups/parties; neither are they tolerating any attempts(s) by the opposition to coerce/induce any such deviation from the norm.
