Post-mortem on corporal confirms death by hanging

THE post-mortem performed on the body of Special Constabulary Corporal Clarence Giles, by Government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh on Monday, confirmed that the cause of death was compound pressure to the neck due to hanging, police reported.

altGiles was found dangling from a rafter on a piece of cord in the bedroom of his home, Lot 72 South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, on February 23.
The discovery was made about 06:00 hrs after a domestic dispute with his wife, who had fled the house.
Police believe that Giles committed suicide in a fit of rage but some of his relatives suspect foul play.
The policeman, who was recently transferred to the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) in Georgetown after serving at Sparendaam Police Station, was discovered dead by one of his sons who had slept in the house after their mother left the previous night in the midst of a heated argument.
The woman, Shondell Giles, a Police Sergeant attached to the Cove and John Station, on East Coast Demerara, too, said she and her husband had been experiencing problems because of him constantly accusing her of having extra-marital affairs.
Nearby residents said, before he died, Giles had drunk a poisonous liquid in a previous attempt to kill himself a few weeks ago.
