Defendant refused bail on gun wounding charge

RAY Bourne Harvey (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday on an unlawful wounding charge.

He appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on January 22, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Carlton Butler.
Police Sergeant Alexis David-Hosanna, prosecuting, successfully objected to pre-trial liberty on the ground that the defendant was granted bail on a previous charge and he committed another crime.
The prosecutor also pointed out that the defendant used a gun to inflict the injuries on the virtual complainant’s face.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Gordon Gilhuys, representing the defendant, had requested reasonable surety, lamenting that Harvey was kept in police custody beyond 72 hours.
However, the magistrate told the lawyer she was not inclined to grant his request since the defendant committed another offence while free on bail.
The case was put off for February 6.
