A MAN was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge of unlawfully assaulting his ex-wife.
Saywack Dasrat (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that, on January 22, he assaulted Demi Applewaite to cause her actual bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail on the ground that the defendant is a repeat offender.
The prosecutor said the defendant was previously charged and convicted for a similar offence, involving the same virtual complainant.
The prosecutor also informed the court that the defendant is in breach of an interim order under the Domestic Violence Act, which the woman had served on Dasrat.
The prosecutor said, if pre-trial freedom is considered for the defendant, it is likely that he would interfere with the virtual complainant, again.
The woman complained, in court, that Dasrat is constantly harassing her and threatening her life.
She said he would go to her home and verbally abuse her and leave pictures with blood there.
The woman said, in fear for her life, she, many times, locked herself in the house.
Dasrat denied the allegations and claimed that his ex-wife is the one who visits his home and torments his mother.
He said the virtual complainant would go to his house with her mother and uncle and verbally abuse his mother.
Dasrat will make another court appearance on March 26.
