Edmay makes it to 100!

MS Edmay Mc Intosh of Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) celebrated her 100th birthday, yesterday, surrounded by close relatives and friends.

altGuyana’s newest centenarian is alert and lively, and seems likely to continue chalking up years on this earth, God willing.
She told the Guyana Chronicle how very proud she was to live to be 100 years old. She says she has no medical complaints other than a knee complication, which she says is due to “old age”. Her eyesight, hearing and speech are commendable, and she has a very good memory.
Edmay Mc Intosh was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, but her parents moved to Guyana when she was a baby, during the time when there was a war in Suriname and her parents, who were Guyanese, moved to Guyana because “all the English people must get back to their country”.alt
Edmay attended the St. Phillips School, and went on to marry at the age of 26, when she was at the time living on the Corentyne Coast.
She related that she worked very hard to provide for herself and her family, doing domestic jobs such as washing clothes for persons.
Asked the secret to living such a long and healthy life, she said that one has to work very hard and have a contented mind.
Edmay has had six siblings, of whom one sister is still alive; and she had mothered 4 children -three sons, and a daughter whom she has outlived.
She has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she says are always running around and keeping her lively.
Asked who her parents were, she stated confidently: “My father’s name was James Lovell, and my mother’s name was Rosetta Henry.”
Ms Edmay Mc Intosh celebrated her 100th birthday with a small get-together with her sons, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. A pastor was there to conduct prayers, and he joined with her loved ones in wishing her a happy birthday.
