Police closer to cracking Corentyne mandir murder case – but no charges laid as yet

POLICE Crime Chief, Deputy Commissioner Seelall Persaud, said yesterday that, over the weekend, police had detained several persons for questioning into the strangulation death of Iskcon Hari Krishna Mandir watchman, Jagdat Ramcharran, 61, of Section ‘B’ Bloomfield, Corentyne, Berbice (Region#6), whose body the mandir pandit had found trussed up at his Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice place of work at about 03:00hrs on January 6 last.

Ramcharran’s hands and feet had been bound, and a piece of cloth had been tied around his neck. The temple had been broken into and ransacked, and a pair of slippers, one religious bell, and a CD player had been taken.
A post-mortem performed on Ramcharran’s body last week revealed that death had been due to ligature strangulation.
Persaud said that police would be able to act based on the evidence at hand; but he noted that, up to press time, no one had as yet been charged for the homicide.
