THE opposition camp was again slapped with further embarrassment when Opposition Leader and Leader of A Partnership for National Unity, David Granger, was unable to explain why he made a big fuss and called for a Commission of Inquiry into the incidence of criminal violence at one period in Guyana.

altYesterday when approached by media operatives, Granger could not say what was the real reason and logic behind his motion calling for a presidential Commission of Inquiry into violence in Guyana which did not include the period prior to 2004.
Granger in a motion titled “The Appointment of a Commission of Inquiry to Investigate Incidence of Criminal Violence from 2004 to 2010 in Guyana”, called on the President to establish a commission to probe this wave of violence.
The motion pointed to killings at Agricola, Bartica, Lusignan and several other murders and killings during that period.
However when questioned as to why the motion only focused on 2004-2010,  and not earlier, bearing in mind the jail break on February 23, 2002, which brought a wave of violence, Granger said the motion was modified after consultation with Parliament.
Again pressed about whom in the National Assembly such consultation was held with, Granger then claimed that there were no consultation, but rather Parliament Office amended the motion to focus on 2004-2010.
He said he does not support the amendment, but was unable to say whether he will seek to have the motion adjusted to consider the period before. He said that he might consider asking the House to go back to 2002.
