Anna Regina IMC takes more decisions on vending

THE  Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Anna Regina township has taken a  decision to remove vendors from along the road leading to the market. The members, at their first statutory meeting for 2013, on Thursday, decided to clear the roadway after the issue was put on hold last December 6, to allow vending for the festive season.
The IMC concurred that the situation was getting out of hand and was unfair to other vendors operating in the market. Several of the members pointed out that the vendors are creating a traffic hazard and congestion at the main entrance to the Anna Regina New Housing Scheme, the Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI), Guyana Power & Light (GPL) generating plant, Mainstay Holiday Resort and Village, Red Lock, Lima Sands. Mc Nabb and Tapakuma villages.
The road is also used to transport sand from Mainstay with trucks and lumber from the interior and vendors operating along the route are throwing garbage on the shoulders of the road and in the drainage trench, painting a dirty picture of the environment around the market.
The IMC members, who are determined to get the surroundings in order and vendors off the road, recently visited the market and observed that several stalls and tables were unoccupied and called for roadside vendors to occupy the empty spots in the market.
It is reported that some sellers on the road have indicated their willingness to move once they are given stalls or spots.
Meanwhile, the IMC is working to have the Bush Lot Market put into daily operation with 83 stalls to be allocated to vendors.
The IMC stipulated that each vendor or stallholder must have garbage disposal bags at their place of operation to dispose of waste in a safe and decent manner.
Having discussed the operations of those selling near the Anna Regina High Bridge, the IMC resolved to take strong action to stamp out the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages in the area where it is only permitted to sell soft drinks and foodstuff.
Those who do not comply will have their permission to do business at the location withdrawn.
