EXCUSE the rambling this week dear readers, but I just cannot put my mind on a sufficient topic/subject that will hold your attention, except of course if the embarrassing antics being displayed in what should be an honourable House of Parliament captures your imagination. The Opposition Members of Parliament continue to pursue meaningless dialogue simply pillorying the best effort of the government in futile unconstitutional motions on violation of long standing established parliamentary principles. This laughable situation is ably abetted by the Honourable Speaker of the House.
So much for Parliament
My thoughts arouse some consideration on the question of what can only be termed the chaotic world monetary alarms that erupt ever so often and further drive me to think whether the time has arrived to seriously review our democracy. Is it failing us? Is it serving adequately the needs of all the people in our struggle for a place in the sun in a less strife prone environment?
What is currently taking place in EEC countries is evidence something is radically wrong to have the need to embark on constant bailing out defaulting countries which find themselves on the brink of massive failures.
It is opportune to have a serious review of the many and varied approaches to social and political development by the founding leader of the PPP Dr Cheddi Jagan. His historical system of a New Human Global Order is becoming more and more relevant in today’s world and it is chastening to note that the PPP is constantly guided by his legacy. It gives the needed confidence that whatever befalls them they have the ability to overcome.
A brief word about the government’s efforts at coping with public servants increase of salaries and it is appreciative to note that the workers will receive what I consider a token 5% retroactive to January 2012.
The problem with raising salaries is the ability to sustain whatever is finally paid.
Meanwhile, let us all look forward to the New Year being more fortuitous to pushing the country forward.
