Financial Papers totalling $3.3B tabled in National Assembly

FINANCIAL Papers 3, 4 and 5, of 2012, with a total value of $3.3B, were yesterday tabled in the National Assembly by Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, for the approval of supplementary appropriation funds, some of which had

been cut from the original Estimates and Expenditures presented to the National Assembly in March this year.
altThe Opposition, at the time of the budget cuts, and in response to the protests made by government workers, and the Amerindian communities, who were both affected by the cuts, had said that monies removed from the original budget could be restored through the request from the National Assembly for supplementary funding.

The Financial Papers presented yesterday included requests for $913M for the acquisition of fuel for the Linden Electricity Company and Kwakwani Utilities Inc., and $161M for expenditure incurred by the Linden Commission of Inquiry.
Also included was funding for wages and salaries for contracted employees at the Office of the President, for which $136M is being requested.
Included also was a request for funding falling under the Ministry of Home Affairs, which includes $293M for the Citizens’ Security programme and $105.3M for increased patrols in interior locations. Additional funding related to other activities regarding ranks in interior locations and expenditure regarding increased fuel prices.
Expenditure with respect to drainage and irrigation works also saw requests totalling $449M, and $1.1M for sea defence works.
The three financial papers are expected to be addressed at Thursday’s sitting where Government’s business is slated to take precedence in the National Assembly.
