IT could come down to execution to determine the eventual winner tonight as a fierce battle looms when the two top seeds in the Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s Malta Supreme Christmas basketball championship collide in the night cap of a double- header card where number one seed Kashif and Shanghai Kings come up against their nemesis second ranked Amelia’s Ward Jets at 21.00h while in game one Retrieve Raiders come to grips with Wismar Pistons at the Mackenzie sports Club Hard Court. After playing last night against the Bulls the Kings would find the challenge of the Jets a tough assignment indeed.
Having held on to the top position ranking by a mere one point based on the new ranking system instituted by the LABA, the Kings are cognisant that winning this tournament is important to stave off the Jets at the end of 2012.
Having won the Trophy Stall Tournament earlier this year, the Kings ran in fourth in the last BOSAI basketball tournament to finish on 13 points with the Jets who were second in the rankings to Kings in that tournament placing third in the BOSAI championship and being second overall on 12 points to the Kings.
With this close margin the Kings are wary of an opponent that is threatening their top billing.
Of recent the Jets have also won both their matches against the Kings and this speaks for itself about the match-ups this evening.
The Webster brothers Shane, Allister and Domain present a tough match-up for this Kings team and while the experience of Steve Neils (Jr.), Orin Rise and Marvin Hartman can swing the balance for them, in a close game the Jets can punish the Kings with that power inside.
On the other hand the Kings can shoot their way past the Jets if allowed to.
The team that makes the best of the opportunities will eventually come away victorious tonight.
The bother game should be interesting to see if the Raiders with all the talent they have can stave off a determined Victory valley royals who cannot be written off. The Royals are led by Marlon Pollydore in the absence of Chris Williams, their best player. With an inform Harold Adams holding his own and the return of Stephen Couchman the Royals do have a good chance of getting past this Raiders side.
However, if the Raiders play to their potential a win should be forth coming as they surround their game around Neil Marks, Anson Durant, Alexander Rose and the young talents like Geoffrey LaRose, Dwight McKinnon, Omar Sam and Ruel Williams.
Another double- header will be played tomorrow when the game affected by a power outage between Half Mile Bulls and Block 22 Flames at half time will resume at 33-23 for the Bulls and the other is between the Royals and the Pistons.
