Man tells court that he behaved disorderly because he was thirsty.

TOTIRAM Shadeek of Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD was charged with disorderly behaviour committed on Tuesday, 4th December, at the Sparendaam Police Station while being detained by the police. He appeared before Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore on Wednesday, December 5, and pleaded guilty to the charge, telling the court that he was thirsty and the ranks present did nothing to offer any assistance.

He added that frustration got the better of him, and he banged on the bars of his cell.

However, Police Prosecutor Joel Ali interjected to inform the court that the defendant’s story differed from his facts. According to him, Totiram was loud and aggressive in requesting the drinking water; and in the process, he cursed one of the ranks on duty.

Totiram was then sentenced to perform thirty hours of community service by Magistrate Alex Moore.
