Noting past experience… National Toshaos Council members donate blood after meeting

SOME executives of the National Toshaos Council (NTC) donated eight pints of blood to the National Blood Bank at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) yesterday.

altThe donation was made after the members concluded an executive meeting at the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, at Thomas and Quamina Streets, also in Georgetown.
The entire committee was at the Blood Bank but only eight members met the requirements to donate.
Chairman of the NTC, Toshao Derrick John told the media that it was a very significant occurrence for the leaders, since, on a number of occasions Amerindians are sent on emergency flights to the city and find difficulty in securing blood to replace what they have lost before receiving medical attention.alt
He said this donation was not only done for Amerindians but for Guyanese people on the whole who would need blood.
John disclosed that the NTC Executive Council is presently working on capacity building and will embark on a major networking campaign to sensitise the communities about the work of the ministry, as well.
He said they were lectured on child protection which is very needed for the various leaders and is a major problem in the communities. They will now have firsthand knowledge of what to do, how and when.
John mentioned that education, health, transportation, agriculture, security and tourism are among other areas in which issues continue to face the Amerindian people, as policies, projects and proposals are being submitted for assistance.
