FOLLOWING an article in yesterday’s edition of Stabroek Sport headlined “Interim cricket body members may resign”; one member refuted such a statement, adding that he is willing to serve the Government-appointed Interim Management Committee (IMC), until its life expires.
In a telephone interview with Chronicle Sport, Harry Parmesar, an Accountant by profession and Assistant Treasurer of the Roger Harper-steward Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) said no discussion was held with regard to any member of the IMC calling it quits.
“First of all, I was never invited to any meeting, neither have I attended any meeting with regard to such an article that was published yesterday. I learnt of it from reading the article and I want to categorically state, that I am willing to serve the IMC until it shelf life expires,” said Parmesar.
He added, “I am not certain which group of individuals that reporter spoke with and they indicated their willingness to resign, but what I do know is that a certain sect of individuals make up the IMC which is chaired by Clive Lloyd.
From the Demerara Cricket Board which has two factions, Bissoondyal Singh and Roger Harper were representing one faction while they were several individuals, who did not comprise the membership of the IMC, who were a part of the meetings, having the interest of cricket in their hearts.”
Parmesar believes that when Lloyd, who is currently out of the country returns, the issues regarding the membership of the IMC will be cleared up, while he reconfirmed his commitment towards the body.
The IMC, set up last December, following several allegations that were levied at the now-defunct Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), was charged with, among other things, to draft up a Constitution and Legislation for that body.
Despite several hiccups, including Court orders and injunctions, both documents were completed and, according to a letter that was sent to president of the West Indies Cricket Board Dr Julian Hunte from the desk of Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony, is set for a first reading in the National Assembly on December 17, with subsequent conclusion by the end of December.
