THE silence surrounding the fate of EZjet was broken when head of the Civil Aviation Authority, Zulficar Mohamed, officially spoke with the Guyana Chronicle on the status of that airline’s operations yesterday.
Information came almost one month after the United States, Canada and Guyana Governments suspended EZjet’s licence to operate.
Restoration of EZjet’s right to return to the local airspace is partly dependent on the United States lifting its suspension, according to Mohamed.
He said that once the U.S. revokes suspension of the airline’s licence, the Government of Guyana would consider allowing the airline to resume its local operations.
Once the suspension is lifted in the United States, he said, he would advise the Public Works Minister by way of a recommendation on the way forward for EZjet.
The head of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said the reason the Guyana Government would have to wait for the U.S. to act is because the airline would be operating with aircraft from the United States.
“That is dependent on approval of the U.S. Government, because they would be using U.S. carriers out of the USA into Guyana, so that is the important part. It’s not so much what Guyana will do for them. Once they get the approval from the U.S. to continue operation or restart their operation, we would have to examine it, and it’s up to the government to make a decision,” Mohamed was quoted as saying.
