AMERINDIAN Affairs Minister, Pauline Sukhai, on Saturday last, presented the North Rupununi village of Rupertee, in Region 9, with a brand-new Honda XR 125L motorcycle and the sum of G$1.5M for assistance in transportation and in an eco-tourism project the village has undertaken. Senior Councillor, Ms Gloria Duarte received the gifts on behalf of the village council at a simple handing-over ceremony at Rupertee.

There is no vehicle operating within this satellite settlement of Annai Village, and Councillor Duarte said villagers have to pay large sums of money for transportation services rendered.

She appealed to the minister and her ministry to assist Rupertee to acquire a tractor, even as she expressed thanks for the motorcycle and cash received.
