OFFICIALS of the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), together with Chairman of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud met with scores of Perseverance Estate residents yesterday and inspected the site for a proposed access that will link the community nearer to the public road. Speaking at the meeting after the inspection, Persaud said the project is included in the Region’s capital programme for 2013 but the Finance Ministry had advised that BNTF should look at it.
He recalled that residents told him at previous community meetings that the road is badly needed because secondary and primary schoolchildren and other residents are suffering daily to use another, longer route which is mostly used by rice farmers, to get to school, markets, hospital and other important places.
Persaud said the proposed new path, which is 2,250 feet in length, will benefit especially schoolchildren. Known as ‘curry road’ it is currently a mud dam, overgrown with grass and bush, but is being used because it is the shorter way.
However, residents are looking forward to its approval in the coming months.
