The charges were indictable, and the accused was not required to plead.
Magistrate Clive Nurse remanded Persaud until February 25, 2013.
This publication was reliably informed that on the next court appearance, Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos is slated to appear on Persaud’s behalf.
Persaud and Meyers were previously involved in a relationship, which lasted for 14 years and occasioned the birth of four children.
On Sunday last, Persaud surrendered to police following an arrangement brokered by his relatives to facilitate his arrest on condition that he be not hurt or mistreated.
During court proceedings, Persaud sat quietly in the courtroom along with other prisoners on the prisoners’ bench. His facial expression and demeanour suggested that he was untroubled to be facing the court on the indictable offences.
Exuding an aura of defiance, he told the court that he is a father of five, and that he has had no previous brushes with the law.
Following his appearance in court, Persaud made his way downstairs to the lockups, escorted by police. Seeing this reporter attempting to have a good photographic shot of him, Persaud decided to strike several poses for the camera. He even enquired whether his poses had been adequate, and declared that he was willing to pose again for the camera.
