Marian Academy needle Tucville to lift Pee Wee title

MARIAN Academy squeezed past Tucville 1-0 in an intriguing final battle yesterday, to claim the title of the COURTS/Petra Pee Wee Inter- School football competition which was contested at the Thirst Park ground.The match saw the teams trade shots throughout the game with some close shaves that had the crowd thrilled. However, the decider was scored in the 41st minute during a goal-mouth scrimmage by Shemroy Holder.That goal was one that went unanswered since the regulation time whistle sounded a few seconds later.The tournament’s Highest Goal Scorer, Simeon Hackett of Tucville, was well contained by the opposition’s defence that included defender Matthew Klautky who was eventually adjudged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Marian Academy’s Akeelo Haynes was named as the Best Goalkeeper while the other individual prize, Most Disciplined Team, went to F.E. Pollard.
Winning the third place showdown were West Ruimveldt, who defeated North Georgetown 2-0 with Michael Oie (17th) and Japeth Singh (40th) scoring for the eventual victors.
These top four teams were awarded with trophies and a Desktop computer along with two Coby Boom Boxes. Two Boom Boxes were also awarded to each participating school.
In other results, St Margaret’s finished fifth ahead of the St Gabriel’s team 1-0 as Shaquan Stephens recorded the lone goal.
Redeemer defeated Ketley for eighth place by the same score line in the final game as Shemar Dover scored the decider in the 28th minute.
St Pius got past Enterprise 2-1 as Beveney McGarrell and Marcus Wilson scored for St Pius, and Izannah Rogers scored for Enterprise.
F.E. Pollard needled Sophia with Meshack Softleigh the scorer while South Ruimveldt sank St Sidwell’s 2-0. Scoring for St Sidwell’s were Raheem Hamreys and Shenaar Smith. Success Academy gained a walkover from Green Acres who did not show up for the entire knockout round.
