Lions for Diabetes Walk on Sunday

THE Lions Club of D’Urban Park will be joining other Lions clubs in Guyana and the Ministry of Health for the ‘Strides: Lions for Diabetes Awareness’ walk this Sunday. The theme for the occasion is ‘Preventing and Controlling Diabetes – Take your first step today’ and the exercise is aimed at making people with diabetes aware. It will begin at 06:00 hours from Banks DIH on Mandela Avenue, continue North into Alexander Village, North on Saffon Street past La Penitence Market, East into Punt Trench Road, North into Smyth Street, West into Hadfield Street and will culminate at Parliament Square, Brickdam, all in Georgetown.
A press release, from the D’Urban Park Club, said brochures with information on diabetes will be distributed along the route and there will also be a short, formal ceremony at the end of the process at Parliament Square.
“Lions all over the world organise strides events in their communities to heighten awareness of diabetes and its complications and to provide information on preventing and managing the disease. These events promote regular, healthy exercise and are open to participants of all ages,” the release stated.
It added that all organisations that are represented by a contingent on the Sunday walk will be issued with Certificates of Participation and registration of them will be done at the assembly point.
