Kaieteur News article on Superintendent McLeod killing corrected

I WISH to clarify gross discrepancies as published in the Kaieteur news column Re: – That Commission of Enquiry has exposed many shortcomings in that (1) Ian Puttock was not the Commissioner of Police

(2) Ronald Weber was the Commissioner of Police.
(3) The officer that was fatally shot was Derek McLeod not James McLeod.
(4) It came out in evidence in the Wynn Parry Commission that when McLeod was shot, Asst Comm. James Phoenix spoke to Mr. Weber and told him that McLeod was shot, and asked what he must do.

Mr. Weber told him, “James, you are on the ground, make your decision and take the necessary action.” Mr. Phoenix told the Commission that he then began shooting in the direction from whence he believed the bullet came, he was shooting, and he was shooting to KILL.

I sincerely hope that a review will be made on the article, and a correction be made so that facts and history are not twisted and distorted to glorify journalistic penmanship.

Please don’t take the word of an “old police” who was around at the time of the riots, but one who was present at the Commission of Enquiry, or those who are 70 years and older and were following the proceedings of the Enquiry.
