A BARBER and a shopkeeper appeared in court yesterday, in answer to cross charges of unlawful assault.
Candia Shepherd and Adebo Alexander (no addresses given) pleaded not guilty, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, to the charge that, on October 1, each unlawfully assaulted the other.
Alexander told the court he had sent his son to Shepherd’s shop to purchase a pack of milk. He claimed that, when the boy returned with the milk and he put it in his tea, he observed that the tea did not get white and the substance settled at the bottom of the cup.
The man added that he sent his son to return the milk and the latter came back, informing him that Shepherd had refused to take it back.
Alexander said he then went to the shop, himself, to explain to Shepherd that the milk was spoiled but she became annoyed and began to argue.
He said, during the argument, some of the milk spilled on her and she came out the shop, took a broomstick and lashed him with it.
They both held on to each other’s clothes before another man came between and parted them.
Both defendants were placed on a bond to keep the peace and were sent on their own recognisance, pending their return to court on November 7.
