New information leads to suspect in Puran’s murder

DEPUTY Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud on Friday said that they have new information in relation to the homicide of taxi driver Rajendra Puran and are looking for a suspect, who is also wanted in another matter.

altA wanted bulletin was issued for that suspect sometime but to date he remains at large and although several persons were questioned but later released and no one was charged for the murder, Seelall said.
He stated that the homicide is still active as sleuths follow up on several leads which may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
The victim, Rajendra Puran, 40, of Lot 1296 Section C- Block Y Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was found in a drain at Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, on May 3, 2012.
However, a post-mortem on May 4, 2012 revealed that Puran died of manual strangulation and blunt trauma to the head.
Detectives at the scene said Puran’s death might have been the result of a robbery/hijacking and he was killed elsewhere and dumped at the Enmore location. His white Toyota Raum HB 9875 is yet to be located.
Puran’s bound and gagged remains, with marks of violence on his face, were found in a drain outside Lot 71 Red Road, Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
