2012 RHTYSC Busta ‘Champion of Champions’ : Albion, Young Warriors and Bermine join RHTGG in semi-finals

THE ninth edition of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC)-organised, Busta-sponsored ‘Champion of Champions’ tournament got under way across the Ancient County on Wednesday last, with Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets (RHTGG), Albion, Young Warriors and Bermine registering victories to advance to the semifinals. The opening rounds attracted fair-sized crowds at all venues and were highlighted by brilliant batting from national players Shimron Hetmyer who blasted 151 for Young Warriors against West Berbice who saw Arthley Bailey hit an unbeaten 102 in the same contest.
Richard Ramdeen, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Kandasammy Surujnarine also turned out incredible performances for their respective teams on the opening day of the tournament which is being played on a knockout basis.
At the Albion Community Centre, the home team thrashed Skeldon by a whopping 10 wickets, after bowling out their opponents for 135 in 46.3 overs, with Ganesh Nauth, Sydney Jackman Jr. 23 and Anthony Bramble 15 being the principal scorers.
Bowling for Albion, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Narsingh Deonarine and Jonathan Foo took two wickets each for 22, 23 and 34 runs respectively then watched as their team reached 136 without loss from 16.5 overs, thanks to Chattergoon and Surujnarine who ended on 64 and 57 respectively.
At the Blairmont Community Centre ground, Bermine cruised past the home team by 6 wickets.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Blairmont were bowled out for 110 in 40.2 overs, as only Andrew Jainauth 27 and Andrew Seekarran 18 offered resistance to the bowling of brothers Eugene and Joemal La Fleur, who took 3 for 20 and 3 for 25 respectively.
In response, Bermine reached 111 for 4 from 26.1 overs, with Joemal La Fleur top-scoring with 33, Devon Clements 25 and Eugene La Fleur 16.
Hetmyer, a national Under-19 opener showed his class at the Cumberland ground in Canje with a majestic 151 (the highest score in the tournament’s history) as Young Warriors rattled up 327 for 6 from their allotted 50 overs.
He and fellow opener Richard Ramdeen added 247 in 37 overs to give the home team the perfect score, before they were both dismissed, with Hetmyer blasting nine fours and seven sixes, Ramdeen five fours and three sixes in his 78, while Gajanand Singh offered support with 25.
Bowling for West Berbice, skipper Krisendat Ramoo claimed 3 for 50, before Bailey struck nine fours and four sixes in his unbeaten ton, which, together with Keith Fraser and Rafael Estriado’s 37, failed to prevent West Berbice from going under to the home team by 62 runs, as they were bowled out for 265 in 42.1 overs, thanks to Kevin Ramdeen who took 3 for 53.
The tournament continues next Wednesday with Albion hosting Young Warriors and Bermine travelling to the Area ‘H’ ground to face RHTGG, the defending champions of the tournament in the semifinals.
