Guyanese culture towards littering must change : – Minister Baksh

MINISTER within the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Alli Baksh, has said Guyanese culture must change from dumping garbage in public places, road shoulders and drainage trenches. Addressing scores of workers at Cotton Field on the Essequibo Coast last Saturday, he said Guyanese must change their habits, culture and attitude as it relates to littering.
According to him, now is not like before. Guyana is more advanced in development and the culture of its people has to change.
“The country cannot be littered by careless people throwing garbage, including pieces of paper or plastic cups, bottles, etc., in public places, road shoulders and drainage trenches, especially in the capital city,” he said.
The Minister remarked that many areas outside the city are also littered by careless citizens and workers of the Community Enhancement Drainage Programme are faced with the task of removing pampers, sanitary napkins and other garbage from drainage trenches in many villages across the country.
He called on all Guyanese to be litter- free citizens. (R. Prabhulall)
