TREVOR Roberts, of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday in answer to a charge of robbery with aggravation. The allegation against the defendant in that, on October 18, being together with others, he robbed Romario Fernandes of one cell phone valued $11,000 and $25,000 cash.
He pleaded not guilty and claimed that two police officers picked him up and accused him of robbing someone but he has no knowledge of the crime.
Roberts also alleged that the officers beat him severely and he was vomiting blood while in the lock-ups but they refused to take him for medical treatment.
Police Sergeant Winneth Hubbard, prosecuting, said she is unaware of the defendant’s allegations, but she will investigate them.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant was speaking on his phone when the defendant, in company of another person, took away his belongings.
An alarm was raised and the defendant was, subsequently, apprehended, when the phone was recovered in his possession.
Roberts was granted $75,000 bail and the case will be called, again, on November 6.
